Østfold fylkeskommune

The symbolism in Østfold County Council’s coat of arms was chosen on the basis of the county’s name and geographical location. The upwards slanted sun motif on a red background plays on the idea of a bygone cult and is inextricably linked to the concept of a life-giving sun and the nurturing power of nature. The flame shaped beam symbolises warmth and the two pointed ones symbolise light.
